Try Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies.
Oblique Strategies (subtitled Over One Hundred Worthwhile Dilemmas) is a deck of 7x9 cm printed cards created by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt and first published in 1975. The Advantages of Table Views Over Left Nav Flyouts
(via jxnblk)
At first glance, these two navigation patterns seem very similar, but there are a few points that give table views* a huge leg up. When dealing with a multi-tiered hierarchy or a variable amount of navigation items – such as text messages, emails, folksonomic categories, folders, files, etc. – table views can be a great solution. Lists are generally easier to scan than tiles, and vertical scrolling is an easy interaction for touchscreen mobile devices.
» Consumer Eye Tracking Device
The Microsoft Kinect was an incredible leap forward in terms of the potential for interface design in the future. This eye tracking device is one of the first to market itself for consumers and not for research or industrial usage. Using a combination of movement tracking and eye tracking are a completely new paradigm for human computer interaction at the consumer level, and it’s very exciting to see giant leaps in this direction. I can’t wait to get my hands on these and start designing with a “natural user interface” in mind.
